VulBot: The System Vulnerability Scanner Chatbot

Abstract

VulBot is a user-friendly, easy-to-use chatbot that takes network, database, operating system, or web application details as user input, then uses natural language processing, and different tools APIs to complete a thorough vulnerability scan of what was inputted. Using a chain of connected machine learning and cybersecurity tools’ APIs, the bot will generate a report of what vulnerabilities was detected with the appropriate recommendation is a simple syntax that a normal person can read and understand. The chatbot is intended to be used by simple IT department or a bit IT literate staff without the need of an IT or a security specialist. With the increasing cyber-attacks around the world, small and medium size enterprise are commonly the target[1]. Having a robust layer of security using the most affordable resources is on demand and a wanted asset. The availability of the in-house tool and importantly its simplicity will have its competitive advantage over cybersecurity services companies. We are seeking a funding of about OMR 800, to implement this project that will take about 12 months to complete. We defined five milestones in our timeline and 4 cybersecurity fields that it will cover. Our mixture of team members from computer science department and cybersecurity department will help ease the process and make the bot more detailed and much more functional.
