Revitalizing Neighborhoods Local Center through the Transit-Oriented Development
Principles in Al Mabaailah, Muscat

Abstract

This research project aims to investigate the potential of transit-oriented development (TOD) principles in revitalizing Al Mabaailah’s local centres and promoting sustainable urban planning and development in Oman. The research objectives include assessing the current state of the local centres, exploring TOD principles’ application, identifying unique characteristics and challenges of Al Mabaailah, and providing recommendations for policymakers and urban planners. This study will employ a mixed-methods research design, including surveys, interviews, and field observations, to achieve these objectives. The research questions guiding this study are centred around the challenges facing Al Mabaailah’s local centre, the application of TOD principles to revitalize the area, and the unique characteristics and challenges of Al Mabaailah that must be considered in developing a TOD plan. Ultimately, the findings of this research project aim to contribute to the sustainable development of Al Mabaailah and other similar neighbourhoods in Oman and the wider region, promoting livability, economic activity, and social cohesion.
