To mark a significant beginning of 2025, GUtech is extremely proud to announce a new partnership with OQGN aiming at shaping the future of innovation and sustainability.
On the 1st of January 2025, the first stone, or better to say, the first 3-D printed pillar of this collaboration, is established during the signing ceremony between the German University of Technology in Oman and OQ Gas Networks SAOG that was help in the History of Science Centre at GUtech campus.
The collaborative agreement was signed by Honorable Dr. Hussain Al Salmi, Deputy Rector for Administration and Finances at GUtech and Eng. Saif Al Hosni, VP Business Development & Commercial at OQGN.
This new partnership consolidates the ongoing efforts of both institutions and continued commitment to excellence. It aims at pioneering applied research and development in the construction sector as well as in the energy sector to drive meaningful innovative changes. This project also reinforces their commitment to align with Oman Vision 2040 priorities mainly focusing on Smart and Sustainable Urban Development and Energy Transition, focusing on Renewable Energy. This project is additionally perfectly in line with SDG 7 Affordable and Clean Energy, SDG 9 Industry, Innovation, and Infrastructure and SDG 11 Sustainable Cities and Communities, but not limited to.
This first project consists of establishing a new 3D printed house showcasing rapid sustainable construction combining energy-efficient strategies, utilizing sustainable materials, and incorporating environmentally friendly design practices.
Through this project and by aligning their shared values and objectives, GUtech and OQGN aim to lead the way to harnessing the power of science and technology and creating significant educational, societal and economic impact.
This building will function as a living lab, hosting the first and unique hydrogen reactor, providing students with hands-on learning opportunities. Researchers will benefit from favorable and optimal environment and infrastructure to apply their ideas, demonstrate innovative concepts, and showcase their findings.
It will also serve as an ideal platform for GUtech Master’s students in the “first” and “unique” Master of Science in Hydrogen Economy and Technology, offering them the opportunity to apply their knowledge and explore their scientific curiosity in this emerging field.
This project will bring together experts, professionals, researchers, industrial partners, students, and stakeholders in an open space for discovery, collaboration, and the development of future solutions. Additionally, it will engage the wider community by raising awareness on sustainability, renewable energy, and other critical topics.
This project complements GUtech’s ongoing research and development efforts, as the university is actively engaged in a wide range of promising initiatives. Through collaborations with both local and international partners, GUtech is driving innovation in fields such as hydrogen energy, sustainable solutions, and low-carbon technologies. In fact, nine of the ongoing research projects explore innovative techniques to reduce greenhouse gas emissions, address hydrogen transportation challenges, and conduct comprehensive technical, economic, and environmental assessments of hydrogen production, among other critical initiatives. These projects are perfectly in line with GUtech Research Priorities including, among others, “Renewable Energy Systems” and “Environmental Technologies, Water and Climate Protection”.
The exceptional achievements of GUtech’s researchers and experts are reflected in the quality of their scientific publications. In 2023-2024, 80.8% of their publications were ranked in Q1 to Q2 (top 50%) (Source : Scopus), showcasing their contributions to high-quality and high-impactful research.
We will be back to you very soon with news and updates on the official launch of our new building established in partnership with OQGN and looking forward to share our new achievements with you.
